more Inspiration...

Well, I find myself reading a quote today that the CA Arts Council posted on Facebook, and I feel that I know EXACTLY what it means.

"You can't wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club." - Jack London

And that's right, that's exactly what I need to do. If I merely waited for inspiration, I would only write/create when I was angry. And well, where that sometimes gives me a good start on something...I rarely finish it.
Take for instance a week ago, I got angry and decided to create a mess. Literally. Paint on the canvas, my favorite jeans, white tank top, and a drop on the wall (and maybe even a little on the carpet...oops). Yes. It felt great at the time. But now my cleaning frenzy that will have to take place as well as the completion of my two anger started pieces still hangs in limbo.
So, now what. Well, I would post pictures, but I haven't taken any. And can I just complain a moment and say that I SUCK at taking pictures of my art work. haha. Anyway, I digress.
This all boils down to the fact that I can not continue to WAIT for an emotion to hit me to create something. I need to make a conscious effort. Even if it's blogging about it in the interim.
And with that off my chest, I leave you. For the day.

Happy Hump Day!

One of my favorite quotes. I think it's also on the header for the Monday Artday blog.

It is a challenge to hunt down inspiration, but I find-- as crazy as this may sound-- it is helpful to personify your art. For me, it's my mistress whom I dote over. And from time-to-time she mutates into a 'roided out monster who I have to beat back into submission.

I guess what I'm really saying is that it helps to develop a sort of dialogue with your art. It seems that experimentation and repetition are the building blocks of that conversation.

I just realized how long winded my comment is, so I'll end it with this:
That Jack London was a smartie-pants!
